Barrister/ Mediator
Jane is an experienced civil litigation lawyer. She works with clients to resolve legal disputes through court proceedings and/or alternative dispute resolution (ADR), including mediation and arbitration. Her guiding principles are: • respectful communication • personalised advocacy that empowers clients, and • expertise, so clients can make informed decisions. Jane has a special interest in mediation and resolving disputes involving contentious trusts, estates, and relationship property. She is presently completing the AMINZ Mediation Intensive Training to complement her legal experience representing clients at mediation and establish her practice as a mediator. Born in Hamilton, Jane graduated LLB/BA (English) from the University of Auckland and was admitted in 1989. In 2018 she gained a master’s degree in Teaching and Learning from the University of Waikato. She joined Riverbank Chambers on 1st November 2022. Jane’s legal experience was gained in small and medium-sized private law firms, through teaching law graduates, as a prosecutor for a government department, and briefly as a Crown Prosecutor. Jane has represented clients in complex, multi-party and/or personally difficult litigation including in arbitrations and at mediation. She has conducted defended hearings in the District Court, High Court, Family Court, and Employment Court and in other forums such as the Human Rights Review Tribunal, Employment Relations Authority, Parole Board and the now Immigration & Protection Tribunal and Alcohol Regulatory and Licensing Authority. |
